Apple and a number of major streaming music services recently paid a total of $424,384,787 in accrued historical unmatched royalties to a body formed under the Music Modernization Act, with the large sum expected to be meted out to songwriters and publishers starting this April.
The Mechanical Licensing Collective on Tuesday announced it has taken receipt of royalty payments and corresponding usage data from 20 streaming providers as per 2018's Music Modernization Act's limitation on liability for past infringement, reports/a> Variety.Apple and its Apple Music was the biggest contributor with $163.34 million, followed by Spotify's $152.23 million. Amazon and Google also chipped in with respective payments of $42.74 million and $32.86 million. Smaller streaming companies like Pandora, SoundCloud, and Tidal also put money in the pot.
