Sony’s PS4 is the second best-selling console of all time

Sony’s PlayStation 4 has surpassed the original PlayStation which sold 102.5 million units and has become the second best-selling console of all time. Sony sold around 2.8 million PlayStation 4 consoles in its fiscal quarter. The Wii was the best-selling console of its generation with a total of 101.63 million but the original PlayStation dominated its generation. However, PlayStation 2 still tops as it was one of the first affordable DVD players.

Moreover, Sony experienced a three percent drop in sales but recorded a $2.56 billion profit. Although, Sony did make a profit of $1.75 billion on the strength of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and music sales were up eight percent. As the profit dropped by 17 percent and 35 percent over 2018, Sony is expecting the PS4 sales to be less than it originally forecast by 1.5 million units.

Sony is likely to announce the PlayStation 5 debut during 2020’s holiday season and there are chances that it would surpass the Game Boy and take third place. Also, major exclusive titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Shenmue III, The Last of Us Part II, and Death Stranding will release before the end of the year.
